National Institute of Transport (NIT) in Tanzania has introduced a new technology of Railway Junction Control System as a move to manage traffics at railway and road junctions countrywide.

He further said that the idea of establishing this technology came from a student who wishes to see accidents that are happening in railway-road junction are reduced.

“After getting an idea from one of our student, we started developing the technology and we are planning to make trials in Dar es Salaam at Buguruni’s railway-road junction before expanding it countrywide,” he said.

Nkwera who is also an assistant lecturer at NIT’s Computing and Communication Department said that the computerized Railway Junction Control System will also help in track switching and level crossing gate traffic managing.

“Tanzania will be the first to introduce this system in East and Central Africa, the system that is capable of improving reliability, speed, operational safety and efficiency of the railway transportation system,” he concluded.
