NIT collaborates with industry to develop long-term courses In Transport and aviation

In developing demand driven programmes for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the National Institute of Transport (NIT) has successful prepared five long-term courses.

“Under East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) from 2019 to 2021, the National Institute has reviewed and developed five long term programmes,” says NIT’s Centre of Excellence in Aviation and Transport Operation Head Abubakar Noor.

Noor named the five established courses as Diploma in Shipping and Ports Operations, Bachelor’s Degree in Shipping and Ports Operations, Diploma in Road and Rail Logistics, Bachelor’s Degree in Road and Rail Logistics and Diploma in Ship Building and Repair.

“All of these courses have already been certified by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE),” he said.

Noor underscored that the Institute through the EASTRIP program has presented the curriculums for the five long term programmes to NACTE looking for approvals.

“The long term courses which presented to NECTA for approval including Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with Railway Vehicle Technology, Diploma in Automobile Engineering and Locomotive Technology, Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering with Railway Signaling, Diploma in Electrical Engineering with Railway Electrification and Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering,” Noor said.

“We are expecting to start these new programmes in the coming academic year 2021/22,” he observed.

He pointed out that the Institute through EASTRIP has successfully developed teaching and training manuals for the programmes including Twelve (12) Cabin Crew Teaching Manuals, One (1) Practical Maintenance Skills Manual for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Program, One (1) Training Manual and Procedures Manual for Flight Officers Operation Course, Twenty (20) Flight Officers Operation Teaching Manuals, Curricula for Transport Officers Course and One (1) Transport Officer Teaching Manual.

He further said that NIT through EASTRIP has successful reviewed programmes namely Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, One (1) Training Manual and Procedures Manual for Cabin Crew as well as One (1) Training Manual and Procedures Manual for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

“In reviewing the development and Review of curricula and manuals, the Institute has always involving stakeholders as a move to come up with better programmes,” he said.
