Hawassa Polytechnic College Organizes Different Capacity Building Trainings

Capacity building is the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve, and retain the skills, knowledge, tools, equipment, and other resources needed to do their jobs competently. It allows individuals and organizations to perform at a greater capacity. Capacity development starts from the principle that people are best empowered to realize their full potential when the means of development are sustainable home-grown, long-term, and generated and managed collectively by those who stand to benefit.

Having this, Hawassa Polytechnic College organizes different capacity building trainings college management, trade and department heads, instructors, non-project cluster college deans, garment instructors and selected project implementation unite staffs.

Financial Accounting and Procurement Management Training

The objective of the training is to enhance the capacity of trainees on the skill required to fulfil duties in relation to the management, development, implementation and monitoring of the finance and procurement function with a focus on areas of expenditure including payroll and general financial management. It is also to give trainees the essential knowledge they need to become an effective finance and procurement experts as well as to developing financial and procurement management knowledge and skills of trainees. Accordingly, a total of ten participants from nine non-projects TVET attended five days training at Ethiopian Management Institute and certified by Financial Accounting and Procurement Management.

Leadership and Management Training

Strengthening an organization is as much a function of good governance as it is a result of effective management and leadership. Leaders and managers in organizations should develop understanding and ability of managing and leading their organizations in order to improve their effectiveness. Leadership and Management help to build an understanding of basic management functions and the relationships between management and leadership within an organization.

In order to strengthen the governance and management, building the capacity of the college leaders and other relevant stakeholder representatives becomes so crucial. In doing so, the project has facilitated five days leadership and management training at Ethiopian Management Institute for twenty participants from college management members, non-project cluster college deans, Sidama Regional State Science and Technology Bureau, Hawassa City Administration Environment and Climate Change office.

Computer Aided Pattern Making (CAD) Training

The course aimed to produce tech-savvy CAD professionals (Lectra system) who can cop up with the global requirements of apparel manufacturing in term of speed and accuracy. The course provides and hands-on experience of pattern making, Grading and Marker making using advanced Lectra software tools. While manual pattern making is time consuming and labour intensive; usage of Apparel CAD provides accurate and fast results. Considering the growth of the Ethiopian Garment Manufacturing Industry, the demand for Tech-savvy CAD professionals bound to grow in near future, and preparing such professional is need of the hour. Therefore, the course enable the candidates skilled in pattern development with scientific knowledge of latest tools and techniques through usage of Lectra software for Pattern making, Grading, Lay marker planning and digitizing manual patterns, lead to handle and control CAD/CAM systems in Ethiopian Garment Industry.

Accordingly a total of 12 instructors from seven cluster colleges including Hawassa Polytechnic college attended fifteen days CAD training at Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute.  Institute under the laws of Ethiopia licensed and certified to lead and build the capacity of Ethiopian cotton, Textile and Garment Industry in the global market by providing necessary support and services in investment promotion and facilitation, production capacity building, Marketing capacity  building, policy initiation and implementation for cotton, textile and Garment industry that insure conformity to customers and stakeholders’ needs and expectation and applicable legal requirements through implementing ISO  9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS).
