Federal TVET Institute integrates environmental and social safeguards in construction of regional flagship TVET Institute in Leather Products

The Federal Technical and Vocational Training Institute has started construction of four buildings financed with the support of the World Bank, EASTRIP.  The safeguard specialist of the project office has done and conducted a lot of Environmental and Social activities to make it the project sustainable and sound to the environment. The Environmental and Social activities done and conducted by the safeguard specialist of the project office are: Environmental and Social Screening (ESS); The Environmental and Social Management plan (ESMP); Environmental and Social Monitoring plan, the code of conduct signing & Community consultation, Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) guideline preparation, and formation of Grievance Redress Committee.

The number of female employment, empowerment, female students’ enrolment and completion rate in the Federal Technical & Vocational training Institute especially in the area of teaching staff, researcher & leadership positions are very low. Despite of this, the crucial problems related to Female Participation and Access to Federal TVT institute can be categorized into seven key types: attitudinal barriers, financial constraints, inappropriate training environment, lack of security in access and accommodation including sexual harassment and eve teasing, information and knowledge gaps, low prospects for decent work, and low self-confidence and fear of challenging the status quo. Through EASTRIP, the Federal TVT Institute has taken an initiative to improve, enhance and develop females’ participation in the Institute in the area of leadership, researcher and teaching staffs by conducting capacity buildings on the area of gender mainstreaming training for the Institute community, other stakeholders and Capacity building on Educational Research, Project proposal and Grant writing Trainings to FTI Female Teachers to make them competent.
