Arusha Technical College student has innovated an intelligent traffic control system (I.T.C.S) which is able to identify the lane with high traffic density or emergency vehicles and giving priorities to pass a vehicle at that lane and stop vehicles on the other lane.
Speaking to the writer, Anthony J. Carlos, the student of ATC, the College which is among the Regional Flagship TVET Institute under EASTRIP Project says that due to high increase in vehicle travel problems in towns, there is a need of an optimizing traffic control system which will be an alternative to the existing ones.
“The aim of the project was to come up with a more advanced version of traffic light system which will automate traffic lights based on real time traffic and all kinds of emergency vehicle detection, we normally see emergency vehicles such as ambulance stuck in traffic congestions because the road users wait for the traffic lights to turn green, this is a very critical problem because it can cause an emergence case become more complicated” Anthony explained

Furthermore, Anthony says that the system is able to identify the lane with high traffic density or emergency vehicles and give priorities to pass a vehicle at that lane and stop the vehicles on the other lane and the system will send traffic statistics to the control room and count each vehicle that is passing on a specific lane which can be used for future road planning.
