KHIBT develops short-term professional courses in partnership with industry

KIHBT has the following short courses curricula under development in collaboration with the industry.

Road Safety Course

The course seeks to offer better training and capacity building to TVET graduates who may specialize as Road Safety Officers, Vehicle Inspection Personnel, Traffic Police, County Traffic Marshalls, Emergency Healthcare Workers, Occupational health and Safety officers for the Road Construction Sites, County Road Engineers and Road Supervisors, Road Safety Audit and Inspection Personnel.

Highway Slope Maintenance Course

Slope maintenance is a new concept that needs to be incorporated in in highway construction considering the type and scale of projects currently under implementation in Kenya. This was identified through a previous training conducted by experts from Japan in 2018 in Mombasa. The course content includes the following: Slope failure techniques, slope construction techniques, slope drainage, slope vegetation control, slope drainage, slope erosion control

Integrating BIM in Highway Geometric Design (Infraworks, Civil 3D, Civil CAD)

This course content includes: Topographical data collection, preparing road surfaces, road horizontal and vertical alignment drawings, road cross-sections, preparing assemblies and sub-assemblies, preparing road profiles, preparing quantities for road working and modelling highway alignments, plan production and integrating highway design to drainage design.

Road Contract Management and Administration

This course will be offered to contractors, road supervisors and contractors to boost their capacity on the following areas. Site management, preparation of tender documents (preparing bills of quantities, preparing work programme, preparing work schedules and activities, preparing traffic management plans, preparing labour and equipment schedule, preparing accident and incident report forms, tax administration for road contractors, business development,)

The above listed courses are yet to be accredited by Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC) before the institute enrols students for the course.
