Increasing Women’s leadership and decision-making at all levels is critical in advancing gender justice and gender equality in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes. Accordingly, a capacity building training on women leadership, life skills and women’s empowerment was organized by Dire Dawa Polytechnic College (DDPTC).
The workshop was organized as part of the East Africa Skill for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) to support 47 female academic staff selected from national non-project TVET Institutes and Dire Dawa Administration Labour, Skills and Technology Development Bureau. The objective of the training was to increase the life skills and leadership skills of women’s academic staff and empower them on their position within TVET Institutes.
The training was provided for ten days by Haramaya University who had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the College so far. During the training a female mentor from the University, Meseret Girma (PhD, Associate Professor), shared her life experiences for the participants and they witnessed that her experiences are indeed motivated them. At the end of the training, participants were awarded certificates.
