Eng. David Raymond, a tutor at Arusha Technical College (ATC) has developed an electric solar powered tricycle for people with walking disabilities.

The innovation was facilitated by the automotive engineering department whereby the resources used to make it were obtained within the country while few were imported from outside.

Speaking at ATC, innovator, Eng. David Raymond who is the Tutor at Arusha Technical College said that the tricycle uses solar to charge its battery and when there is no sun light it can be recharged by electricity.

He adds that the tricycle has the front headlight and tail/brake light for night trips and the rider must wear reflecting cloth when riding.

The motive towards his innovation, Eng. Raymond says “I once met with a person with walking disabilities, I was despaired and felt sympathetic to see him crawling on the surface, there I got the Idea of making it” said Eng. Rymond.
